Autumn Trends in The Darkroom

As innovators in fashion retail in Bunbury, The Darkroom was a must-get-to-destination to find out what trends are happening right now!

Chatting to Jordan Gianfranceso about what is in store is an enlightening experience for me, and also a step back in time.  In the 90’s when I was a very busy fashion designer in London trend reports and trade shows were all about technical fabrics and styling. Street wear inspired by sports were everywhere, mixing it with name brand trainers. Urban skate labels dominated the high streets, and it was all about the cool factor…

Jump to the middle of the 10’s and its back, fresher and more urban, with an hipster edge. Addidas, Vans, Converse and Nike are still the brands you MUST have to complete your wardrobe, but mix it with the cool stylings of Huffer and you are not just “on trend”, you are way past it and onto the next level!

“We are backing the whole tech lifestyle path this winter, technical outerwear like vests and spray jackets that you would see on an athlete meet paired back with jeans and a tee.” says Jordan, walking around his uber cool store, “Throw in some Vans/Converse or Nike’s and your killing it. Our buddies at Huffer nail this look and its always the first to sell out alongside Carharrt.”

For those who remember the amazing success of labels like Stussey, Carharrt and Maharashi, it brings to life the classic urban look from our youth. For those living this era fresh, its more than a revamp, its a way of living that transcends both male and female fashion themes.

As Jordan says “For girls its a similar story – kind of. Huffers simplistic look of bold colour ways and feminine cuts toned down with casual footwear rules. Its all about wearablity this season – so the materials and cuts are second to none in store. This is cool for the week days – but come the weekend its all about Rue Stiic this season, the softest fabrics, the easiest cuts and bold colourways makes Rue Stiic a stand out. Blacks Whites and a whole bunch of stripes. Again mixed with casual footwear can make this collection fun and simple or dress it up with boots and a heel for the evening. Ultra versatile – and a WA brand!”

So, for laid backed super stylo, head to The Darkroom this season.

Brrrr is it time for Autumn fashion yet?

Well, not quite but that hasn’t stopped us from getting excited about what is hitting our stores!

As winner of the South West Autumn Racing Carnival Window Display competition,  Essence was the best store to start in.

We popped in for a chat and a browse…

What are the strong trends coming through in store this Autumn?
This season the trend for leather and faux leather continues to be one of the strongest themes, with features on t-shirts, jackets and trousers, as well as the staple leather skirt. This season however, the lengths are slightly longer “skirting” the knee in that “celebrity” party look.

Features of metallic trims, in silver, gold and copper are strong across many labels, as well as colourful & blended prints. Halter or cross over necklines blur the seasons, along with Long sleeve play suits in fun colours. Throw on a pair of ankle boots and you are on trend.

What are the “must buy” items you have in store this season?
A statement jacket! Some of the jackets coming through for autumn  and winter are amazing, with touches of metallics or leather features, plus printed pants are just walking out the door. Its that crossover of late summer into autumn dressing. And our play suits are so fun, and easy to dress up for a night out!

Are you introducing any new brands this season?
We have picked up a lot of new and exciting brands but we would really like to focus on Assirak. Karissa delivered our first drop yesterday and we’re really hoping it will work here in Bunbury. She is such a talented and beautiful local girl and we are so excited to see where it goes.

This incredible outfit was runner up in Fashion on the Fields. The ensemble stood out with it’s touch of eccentricity while still oozing sophistication and class.

IMG_3133And for a little more quirkiness check this out. Vintage fabric incorporated in both the dress and the headpiece.

IMG_3112To finish Stylo’s Cup post we must share this final pic of Zoe, Sally-Anne and Gina.  All wearing headwear made and designed but 2 very clever local ladies known as SWIRL. Expect to see some more creative inspirations in 2015.

It was a Big, Wonderful and very Stylish Day

Bunbury Cup 2014 and we don’t think the day could have been better.  The weather was perfect, food, service and hospitality of the Turf Club amazing and the Punters excelled themselves on the fashion stakes. It is all about the fashion today and Bunbury did not disappoint.  Starting with 2 of the Stylo team ….

IMG_3086X2y rocked with lots of their crew dressed to impress. Geoff and Melita, no exception. Always nice to see a classy couple.

The list goes on.  It was a truly fabulous day and the best dressed Bunbury Cup we have ever seen. Stylo will continue to post throughout the week. We would love some more subscribers and some comment on our blog so don’t be shy.  We enjoyed great laughs today with brilliant people, great food (thanks VAT2) and local wine. The Bunbury cup is probably the biggest annual party Bunbury has and today reinforced our belief that we live in a great city surrounded by amazing people who make things happen. As we wandered out it was last farewell to people who still looked amazing after 6+ hours of party. Renita and Lydia, beautiful girls on a beautiful night.
