15000+ People Celebrated Bunbury in Style

That’s a wrap for what can only be called a huge week for the community of Bunbury and the South West.  7 events in 6 days which collectively attracted in excess of 15000 people. The Bunbury Turf Club’s South West Autumn Racing Carnival, promoted under the  banner of Country Cups was a week of celebration, not only for race goers but the entire city.  Country Cups provided the opportunity for everyone to share in the festivities beginning with the Jimmy Barnes concert at the Turf Club on Friday 6.

One of Australia’s iconic rockers was supported by Bunbury’s “The Words”. These guys had been in hiatus for 4 years so many of the loyal crowd were thrilled and privileged so see them back on stage supporting the likes of Jimmy.

Barnes was a crowd pleaser and the Turf Club proved to be an exceptional venue on an exceptional moonlit night.

Saturday was even bigger.  The Bunbury Tri Club ran their Aquathon for the 3rd consecutive year which pulls elite competitors from Perth.  Another exceptional day of weather saw the 60+ entrants swim Koombana Bay and run the beautiful inlet.

Then the streets came alive for the annual VIVA street party.

Throughout the evening appox 3000 people danced in the streets, literally.  One of the few free family events in Bunbury, VIVA proved to be an absolute joy for all including the performers and the organisers.  Bunbury’s cappuccino strip came alive with 2 giant pinatas that were literally beaten to shreds,

Salsa lessons and displays,

colourful and vibrant samba performers

and a breathtaking magician, were joined by face painters, mural painting, a 9 piece Salsa Orchestra and lots of happy people.

Sunday the 8th was Stakes Day at the BTC or some times traditionally known as Ladies Day.  Again the weather could not have been more kind to us. This Stylo had the pleasure of sharing a meal in the Diamond Chimes Marquee.  Fantastic food by Aqua Viva and the perfect seat meant we could soak up the days atmosphere and have front row seats to ‘Fashion on the Fields’…….The impressive winners gave us a taste of what to expect in the much anticipated fashions in the Bunbury Cup. Face of WA Country Cups, Alana Mclean was hosted during the week, and a guest judge for our fashions.

In addition to the Fashion on the Fields the  South West Fashion Festival also announced the winner of the ‘Face of the Festival’, Mehala Ward….Keep an eye out for this coming event.

Tuesday 10 the BTC hosted the sportsman’s dinner which followed on from last years successful Jockey Challenge. Jockey’s from each state were special guests at the dinner and all had the chance to socialise and share stories before their rides on Thursday.

And Thursday last was the 2015 Bunbury Cup.  Another beautiful day in Bunbury. The Bunbury Turf Club and WA Country Cups can be very proud of the amazing week of opportunity they presented to the South West Region……Few organisations or events can claim to offer so much diversity and entertainment to Bunbury, in addition to having a huge impact on Bunbury both culturally and economically. We will leave the pictures to tell the rest of the story.
